5:36 A.M.

What words would fit this hour?
5:36.
A ship just shy of the shore.
Not awake, nor asleep.
Neither rise, nor dream.
Caught between
Break and breakfast.

The glisten of new day on the horizon.
I see the deep noir washed away
Into a soft, playful blue.
Were I to stare I might not detect
Moment to moment change,
But as with all,
The glance away resets
And each time I see more light
Leaking from the blanket of sky.

What words would fit this hour?
With my wife sound asleep,
At my side,
Basking in the last nap
Before the beginning of the dawn.
What words would fit this hour?
