Our Winter Fortress

With a warm drink and soft wool blanket,
While the frigid air beats against
The smooth glass on our window.

The darkness outside mirrors
Our intertwined forms
As we nestle in for a wintry slumber.

Like silk the snow dampens every sound,
Each word spoken in fear of tomorrow,
And the silence soothes our sleep.

No demons will haunt this
Clay castle that we built,
Even if it is just for the night.
