Window in Her Heart

She stood resolute
against the world,
with eyes set in

a face of stone
that refused to crack,
as though everyone

She had known
from Her birth
had conspired to

hold Her down,
hamper Her pace,
and overcome Her.

But tonight she
let this mask
slide from her face,

Her callused hands
softened and were
smooth enough to hold.
